CILTNA’s Ninth Annual Transportation Outlook Conference May, 10, 2010 National Arts Centre, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
The ninth Transportation Situation and outlook Conference (TC2010) attracted many participants from various segments of the Transportation and logistics industry. This unique gathering considered discussions with nineteen (19) expert presenters, which focused on the Trends and Challenges facing the North American Transport Network in the Current Economic Times. Most participants considered the event very informative and successful. The Conference was opened by CILTNA’s Chairman, Mr. Gilles Legaut, FCILT and Mr. Sam Barone, FCILT, Conference Chair, who welcomed the esteemed panelists.
The conference first session "Economic Outlook: Global Trends and Challenges" was moderated by Sandra Lafortune, Director General, Strategic Policy, Transport Canada
Mario Iacobacci, Director Economics, AECOM, provided a Transportation Trends (and Potholes) on the Road to Recovery in his presentation.
Carl Sonnen, President, Informetrica Ltd., provided a Economy and Transportation - A Future in his presentation.
Hazem Ghonima FCILT, President & CEO of TAF Consultants, LTD. concluded the session with an analysis of the Impact of the Economic Recovery on Freight Transportation Trends.
Peter Hall, Vice President and Chief Economist, Export Development Canada (EDC) who was the Luncheon Keynote Speaker provided a stimulating perspective.
The third session, moderated by Don McKnight, DAMF Consultants Inc. Export Development Canada (EDC) focused on logistics issues:
Brigadier Gaston Cloutier, Dept. of National Defense started this session with a presentation entitled Changing Logistics Requirements.
Douglas Keller-Hobsen, Executive Director, Hope Air presented his company's experiences on: Humanitarian Logistics In the Future.
Jutta Paczulla, Director of Innovation Policy, Transport Canada presented Technology and Innovation for the Future.
Ray Haight, Executive Director of MacKinnon Transport, Inc. presented The Next Five Years for Logistics.
The final session, moderated by Keith Penner, Dispute Resolution, Keith Penner and Associates examined Future of Passenger Transportation in High Density Corridors.
Ed Courtemanch, Senior Principal - Operations/Service Planning, AMTRAK presented Future of High Speed Rail in the United States.
Stuart Kendrick, Senior VP, Greyhound Canada Transportation Corp. presented Surface Passenger Transport in Quebec-Windsor Corridor.
Sam Barone, President & CEO, Canadian Business Aviation Association presented The Future of Air in the Quebec-Windsor Corridor.
Lou Smyrlis, Editorial Director, Canadian Transportation Logistics reviewed The Day in Summary.
The conference closed with the summary of the conference findings
presented by Ed Cuylits, Executive Director, CILTNA.
